First Sunday of Advent

immediately following the 5:00pm Mass

6:00pm – 8:00pm

Advent is a time for remembering how the world waited in anticipation for the coming of God’s promised Messiah. It’s a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and to the anniversary of Our Lord’s birth on Christmas. It includes an element of penance as we prepare, quiet, and discipline our hearts for the full joy of Christmas.

But it often feels like every moment of Advent is filled with cleaning, decorating, baking, cooking, helping with children’s programs, shopping, and wrapping gifts in preparation for celebrating Christmas. Like Martha in Luke 10: 38-42, we are busy with many things. Our intentions are good. We are trying to make Christmas special for our families and friends; but we can become so busy preparing that we miss out on experiencing the beauty and meaning of Advent and Christmas ourselves.

Advent by Candlelight is an opportunity for women to gather together to pause and spend some time focused on Jesus and the real meaning of the Advent Season. We invite you to begin the evening with 5:00pm Mass celebrated by Monsignor Michael Wilson. A reflection will be given by Sister Inga Kvassayova, ISMM, from the same order as Saint Faustina Kowalska. The title of her Reflection is:
