7:45am – 7:30pm

Women Walking with Christ is a series of summer excursions to local sacred places offered by the Saint Andrew Apostle Women’s Ministry that provide an opportunity for prayer and fellowship with other parish women. Join Father Jack and the Women’s Ministry for our third and final excursion of the summer as we unite in prayer at Saint Clement Island and important Catholic landmarks in Southern Maryland, celebrating the important role these places played in ensuring religious freedom in America.

Father Jack Kennealy will celebrate Mass for us on Saint Clement Island, site of the first Catholic Mass celebrated in the English-speaking colonies in 1634. We’ll then visit Saint Francis Xavier Church, the oldest Catholic church in the original 13 colonies, and learn about the history of this church from its pastor, Father Pineda. We’ll visit Saint Ignatius Church, the oldest continuously active parish in the United States. We’ll end our day with dinner together and the opportunity for fellowship and sharing of our experiences.

Participants must pack a lunch

plus bring cash to cover cost of water taxi ($7) and dinner (additional $25-40).

This excursion requires walking over grass for a distance of half a mile on Saint Clement Island. No scooters or motorized wheelchairs or scooters will be permitted on the water taxi.

PRAYER FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM
ARCHDIOCESE OF WASHINGTON

Loving Father, thank you for the gift of life and for the freedom to love and worship You. Through the power of the Holy Spirit inspire us to be your witnesses. grant us the courage to boldly and joyfully stand in protection of our freedom. In your mercy, guard our religious freedom so we may continue to live out our faith and transform the world in which we live.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

SUGGESTED READING

As summer is traditionally a time to slow down and perhaps find extra time for spiritual reading, we’ll be suggesting a book related to each of our summer excursions that you might consider reading (or re-reading) in the days before or after our trip. For the trip to the Southern Maryland Historic Catholic Churches, we are recommending:

A Catholic Pilgrimage Through American History: People and Places that Shaped the Church in the United States by Kevin Schmiesing
